Adam Ray has become one of my favorite stand-up comics touring right now. He is full of surprises, characters, and hilarious lines, and I cannot wait to see what comes next.

Adam Ray has had a long, quiet career in Hollywood for over 20 years. He earned roles in Curb Your Enthusiasm, had a cameo in the Barbie movie, and has taken on roles in Hacks, Pam and Tommy, and other projects along the way. The credits were always there. The spotlight was not.

His new Netflix video podcast, The Adam Ray Show, debuts June 19 with new episodes dropping every Friday, and I am FIRED. UP. He taps into his full roster of characters to interview famous guests — Dr. Phil, his Hollywood mentalist Bruce Robbins, Jeremy, and many, many more, and according to Netflix, no one is safe. First up are Michael Bublé, Dave Matthews, Nikki Glaser, and Andrew Santino, with Hasan Minhaj, Jelly Roll, Mark Normand, and others to follow.

I am curious to see how the show compares to what he already produces on YouTube. The production quality he brings to his live shows is impressive, and this feels like a natural continuation of that, just on a much bigger stage. He did not need Netflix. But I understand the appeal. His Dr. Phil act made it to Netflix, a world tour, Killy Tony, and countless YouTube videos. The recognition was always coming. I am just surprised it took this long.

The weekly drop format is not very common for top titles right now, so it will be interesting to see if momentum builds as the season progresses. I think it will. After nearly twenty years in stand-up, Adam Ray found his niche — and people are realizing quickly just how many things he can do well. This feels like the beginning of a much bigger chapter.
